Install Japanese Game Feat Img1

[Tip & Trick] How to install Japanese games/apps on mobile devices (Android & iOS)

Most of the time, Japanese mobile games, just like its PC games, are behind an IP block wall, preventing other countries from access for a good reason: They want to keep their manageable and not get swarmed by people from outside Japan who usually don’t understand Japanese culture (or even the Japanese language itself). Sadly, that means many of us players outside Japan won’t get our hands on these mobile games (which is usually really good). Many of the tutorials on the Internet out there aren’t provide enough information on how to get access to these games, which is why we at A&H Lab decided that we would be the one to do it.

As our promise in previous post. Today’s topic is about how to install Japanese games/apps on mobile devices (Andoird & iOS). On Android device you have three options including:

  1. Installing directly from Japanese Google Play
  2. Installing via third-party application
  3. Installing via file .apk

On iOS device you have one option that is install directly from Japanese App Store. And below is our currently using devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
  • LG G3 LTE-A
  • Apple iPad Air 2

PLEASE REMEMBER

When playing these games, you are playing with Japanese people. You aren’t meant to be playing this game. So you should avoid using English or your own language in public channel. If you need help with the game, there are forums, Facebook pages, Discord chat servers out there. If there aren’t any, you can still ask the players in game using English. There is no rule about using English, but please keep it to a minimum, don’t spam, and if you are lucky, you may get help. Japanese people do understand English and can help you, or maybe you will meet a fellow foreigner who knows the game better than you. Besides, we won’t take any responsibility if your account are banned from the game. We would appreciate for your understanding and cooperation.

Because the post is really long so if you don’t want to waste your time, just focus on the method you want to use. We’ll tell you pros and cons of each method to help you easily choose a suitable method.

ANDROID

1/ Installing directly from Japanese Google Play (currently we’re using this method)

Pros:

1/ This method helps you legally download everything available including early access games/apps from Japanese Google Play

2/ Japanese Google Play belongs to Google, so you don’t need to worry virus or malware…

3/ Your games and apps will be automatically updated (no need to update with Japanese Google account and VPN)

4/ The game and apps will be added to your account’s library once you first downloaded it so you can re-download after uninstall or install them on new devices, this time without using Japanese Google account and VPN. (*Note* Each account has its own library and works separately despite sharing the same device ⇒ You can set which account you want to save library by switching account before download the game/app)

5/ You can purchase everything on Japanese Google Play, in-game purchase and in-app purchase is also available

Here, we didn’t connect to VPN

Let’s try to download it

It’s downloading now

Cons:

1/ Medium difficulty: This method set up is more like a work-around of the system, hence the steps can be very lengthy and confusing (don’t worry, you only need to do it once, plus the benefit provided certainly outweighs the downside)

2/ You can only download games/apps from Japanese Google Play

*Note* If you want download games/apps from other countries, for example Korea, you still can use this method to do it. All you need is use a Korea VPN server instead of Japan VPN server. You will understand after you read our introduction.

As you know, you must login to Google account when you want access Google Play to download games/apps. You will be redirected to local Google Play depending on your Google account country. For example, if your Google account country is Korea, Google will redirect you to Korean Google Play. That mean if you have a Japanese Google account, you can access Japanese Google Play. So, how to get Japanese Google account? When you create a Google account, your account country will be identified by IP address. That’s why you need to use a VPN to change your IP into Japan IP address. Now, we will guide you step by step to create a Japanese Google account. Before starting, we have some notes for you to keep in mind. That is:

  1. To avoid Google identifies your country via phone number and serial number, you must do registration process on PC, tablet or smartphone that doesn’t run Android system such as iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone… (We highly recommend using PC or iOS devices because we registered successfully on them)
  2. You only can register one foreign account per device. Because Google won’t let you register unless you provide phone number from the second foreign account.

Step 1: Connect your device (remember: must be PC, tablet or smartphone that doesn’t run Android system) to a Japan VPN server

*Note* If you don’t know how to use a VPN, please read our previous posts

Step 2: Click here, fill in the form and click “次のステップ” (Next Step)

!important

  • You must leave “携帯電話” (Phone Number) blank to avoid Google identifies your country via phone number
  • You must fill in “現在のメールアドレス” (Currently Email Address). If you leave it blank, next time when you login that account to check/verify email or do something else on PC, you will fail to login unless you fill in “携帯電話” (Phone Number). That mean your region will be found out and you can’t use that account to access Japanese Google Play.

Step 3: After filling the form, click “次のステップ” (Next Step)

!important

  • If Google request you fill in “携帯電話” (Phone Number) after you clicked “次のステップ” (Next Step), that mean your device was used to register a foreign account before ⇒ Solution: CHANGE ANOTHER DEVICE
  • If you can create an account without any problem, then congratulations, you had a Japanese Google account now. Let’s try to get your first Japanese game/app.

Step 4: Add the Japanese Google account you just created to your device

*Note* Screenshot files below is taken from Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. But the method to add an Google account is different based on each device model and manufacturer. So you can Google “How to add Google account on (HTC One, LG G3, …)”

2/ Installing via third-party application

Pros:

1/ Easy difficulty: All you need is a third-party app. In this post, it’s QooApp. There are other third-party apps that similar to QooApp but we don’t review them in this topic.

2/ Able to download games/apps from 3 countries (Japan, Korea and China)

Cons:

1/ You can only download games/apps that is available on QooApp ⇒ You may can’t download load some early access games/apps

2/ It isn’t guaranteed it won’t give you viruses because you doesn’t download games/apps directly from Google Play but via QooApp (you can see QooApp as a third-party store). There is a discussion going on Reddit in which people are discussing whether its safe to use QooApp or not. You can read here.

3/ You need to keep QooApp in  your device to update the game/app

4/ Sometimes you may can’t update the game/app unless you uninstall and re-install the game/app

5/ You may NOT be able to use in-game purchase and in-app purchase

Ok, let’s start from what’s QooApp? It’s an app that provides you a list of all the latest and most popular games from Japan, China, and Korea. Using the app, you can download and play any game available on the Japanese, Korean or Chinese Google Play Stores. Note that QooApp’s main language is Chinese so some sections in the app doesn’t have English translation. So, how to use QooApp? It’s really easy.

3/ Installing via .apk file

This method isn’t really different from the 2nd method. It’s up to you but we recommend you don’t use this method unless you can’t use the 1st/2nd method. Because if you aren’t used to searching for .apk file, it’ll painful for you.

Pros:

1/ Easy difficulty: All you need is a website provides .apk files of games/apps. In this post, we will introduce APKPure. There are other websites that similar to APKPure but we don’t review them in this topic.

2/ Able to download games/apps from many countries (Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Brazil…)

Cons:

1/ Depends on whether or not the .apk file for the game exist ⇒ You may can’t download load some early access games/apps

2/ It isn’t guaranteed it won’t give you viruses because you doesn’t download games/apps directly from Google Play but via .apk files which are provided from many unknown sources. Just like QooApp, there is a discussion going on Reddit in which people are discussing whether it’s safe to use APKPure or not. You can read here.

3/ You need to uninstall and re-install the game when it was updated to new version

4/ You may NOT be able to use in-game purchase and in-app purchase

Ok, let’s start from what’s .apk file? Just like Windows (PC) systems use an .exe file for installing software, Android does the same. An .apk (Android Package Kit) file is the file format used for installing software on the Android operating system. What about APKPure? It’s a website that provides .apk file. And how to install an .apk file? Easy, just follow our introduction
